My Freshman Year: What a Professor Learned by Becoming a Student

Another item from Stephen’s Lighthouse is a new book written by a college professor who went back to school. Rebekah Nathan wrote My Freshman Year: What a Professor Learned by Becoming a Student, which was just published in August 2005 by Cornell University Press. Twelve OhioLINK schools either have it or have it on order. Of course they are all checked out right now.

Faculty and the Net

I use Bloglines to keep track of a number blogs. Stephen’s Lighthouse (blog by the VP of Innovation at Sirsi) pointed to an article published in the September 2005 First Monday, Professors’ Online: The Internet’s Impact on College Faculty by Steven Jones and Camille Johnson-Yale. The article discusses who professors use the Internet for research and to interact with their students.

Sudoku

There was an interesting article in the Zanesville Times-Recorder this week about the number game sudoku. I think it was an AP article, so it was probably published all over the US. One of my coworkers read the article and found Web Sudoku. It’s pretty addictive.

Using technology to teach students about plagiarism

I just read an interesting article on firstmonday about creating on-line lectures to teach students about plagiarism. The author describes the problem of plagiarism, how creating an on-line lecture can help the student through-out the course, and provides some ideas on how to create one.

New look and stats too!

It was a busy second week of the semester. I decided to make some changes tonight on my blog. I have chosen a different template and added a site counter. I am using the free counter available from StatCounter.
